The day of our trip finally arrived. I was nervous which could only mean one thing.. I would have a great time there.. yeay!
Day 1:
|
My loyal red |
Our flight was not till 1:30 pm. It took me a while to pack. Jon started packing early. I know coz I texted her. Asking what to bring.. how many bags.. you know.. girls stuff. I don't know why I was extra nervous.. it's as if I've never traveled anywhere in my life. Lol and it's only been 2 months since my last trip to Langkawi. Jon sent me photo of her luggage. Huge! So I'm good!
We decided to meet at the airport at the Jonker Walk cafe. I had the worst flu that week and was still having it that morning.. so I decided to have noodle chicken soup. Lapar...

Jon joined me later for porridge. We had plenty of time before the flight despite me having to go around Putrajaya Sentral twice because I forgot to take the exit. Mm.. that's why I was nervous! 1:30 pm. Our flight took off..

Comel iols masa ni. Sekian |
We already booked our room at Resorts World Hotel in Pantai Tengah. We wanted something near the sea... and all the nice cheap hotels at Cenang were full. So wanted to stay at the cabin. The website is ubercool! We have also booked a rental car for our stay. A Gen2 for 3d2n at RM100 is a bargain. So we just grabbed it. Manual. So I said to Jon.. kau drive sorang la nampaknya.. lucky us, Jon's knee was much better then when I last saw her. Lol! The car was already waiting at the airport when we arrived. Keys in the unlocked car at the car park.. Gosh.. I love Langkawi. He he he...
|
Langkawi.. here we go |
We took a copy of Langkawi's map and some brochures before we took off. While Jon filled up the tank, we decided we should go to places we haven't been before and then some. So our first stop was Temurun Waterfalls. It's located on the north west of Langkawi, near The Datai. We thought we should cover the attractions on that side of Langkawi first before we checked in.
|
The MAP |
We used the Google Maps.. I didn't have Waze. So Jon was driving just fine when we urmm.. missed a turn. Google Map then took us to another road through some small village and we saw a sign that says "Beware of Crocodiles! Do not swim" That shook us up. lol. Anyway we arrived fine. Temurun Waterfall is simply beautiful. But there were too many stairs to the waterfall and Jon's knees couldn't take that many stairs, we hung out at the first tier... and the view.. amazing! It's a must visit.
|
Amazing Temurun Waterfalls |
Since we're already there.. we decided to go ahead and get on the Cable Car. The weather was hot. Orang Kedah kata.. panaih lit lit.. huhu... Why your country so hot one...? Aiyahhh.. We were also hungry.. So by the time we were there we were both pretty tired. But as we ascended up the Gunung Mat Chinchang, it got pretty cool. I always come here whenever I am in Langkawi. Never did get tired of it. The view has always amazed me. However, though the heat was somewhat unbearable in Langkawi when we were there, it was cloudy.. so cloudy we could not see anything. *sigh* So we #selfie! Since we were already there we also entered the 6d house.. was it 6d or 4d? I don't know but it's like getting on a roller coaster blindfolded.. huhu it was fun.

After all that we drove all the way to Resorts World Hotel to check in..
Alhamdulillah.. our room was upgraded! For free! Yeay! hehe.. The hotel was decent. It's an old hotel. Have always stayed there whenever I had courses or workshops in Langkawi. But it's a bit too far and secluded. So at night time it could get slightly creepy. It has its own Marina. So it's nice to walk at the Marina at night, but again, it could get creepy hehe.. The room is spacious. But we had no time to sit and enjoy the room.. we had to leave for dinner. We chose to have dinner nearby.. at Cenang Beach. There was this seafood restaurant we selected randomly because we were starving. Damn it was expensive. We're so used to the seafood price in Mabul that we were shocked to the bones when we saw the prices! LOL Lucky for us, the food was nice.

Day 2:
|
Yummy .. pulut ikan masin |
We still didn't have a plan. So while having breakfast which was included in the room price, we looked at our maps and found the Kilim Mangrove River Cruise.. We thought it was a great idea since we both have never been there. So after breakfast, which was sedap by the way, we started our drive. It's located on the north west side of Langkawi, while Resorts World is on the South West end. While driving, we saw that the Kilim River Cruise starts really early and we were quite late anyway. So we decided to take a detour to Mount Raya. There was a look out tower that overseas Langkawi. Before that we stopped for a coconut shake. hahaha.. it's right at the intersection to the top of Mount Raya.
Turns out Mount Raya has quite a legend behind it.
"The histories of Gunung Mat Cincang and Gunung Raya are deeply connected and firmly rooted in legend. The story goes that once upon a time there were two giants named Mat Cincang and Mat Raya: though they were extremely close friends, one day at the wedding reception of their children, the two got into a squabble. Each grabbed items nearest to them (pots and pans) to throw at the other. In the middle of the mêlée a number of famous spots around Langkawi were created. A pot of gravy fell in Kuah town, thus resulting in its name (which means gravy in Malay), a bowl of hot water fell in Ayer Hangat (hot water) and a jar was broken in Belanga Pecah (broken crockery).
When the two giants finally came to their senses and realized what a mistake they had made by fighting with each other, they decided to atone for their mistakes by being turned into mountains. Mat Sawar, the mediator for the warring duo, was turned into a small hill (Gunung Mat Sawar) and placed between the two great mountains to ‘watch’ over them in the years to come."http://www.langkawi-info.com/attractions/mat-cincang-mountain.htm#Interesting! On top of Mount Raya there is a lookout tower. You need to pay RM10 to enter. It's actually owned by D'Coconut Hill Resort located next to it. It's well managed, and clean. There is even a small bar on top of it where they serve free flow tea. You can also buy other sorts of beverages there.

We're supposed to see things from here.. huhu |
Then we sort of decided that we need the sun, and went to Tanjung Rhu before getting any lunch. Boy.. that was a mistake. Haha.. we should have stopped for lunch before we go anywhere. We arrived at Tanjung Rhu slightly before noon. It was scorching hot! We decided to just take photos of the beach since we haven't any photos near a beach and we're on an island. Then we saw fried bananas. We had that first before we went to our next stop.

Yums ... baru goreng |
Since we just snacked on hot goreng pisang and keropok, we thought we should delay lunch a bit. We wanted to try the Laksa Penarak near Dataran Lang in Kuah. On the way there, we decided to make a few stops. Our first stop was Mardi Agrotech. It's about 10 minutes from Kuah, and located in the neighborhood of Lubuk Semilang National Park. A bit hidden from plain view.. The entrance fee is RM7 for Malaysians and you get a fruit buffet. Eat all you can! Hehe.. They take you around on a tram and there's an English speaking guide that's so creative in taking photos! Lol!

the day was hot.. |

worth every sen |
Our next stop before laksa was Mahsuri place. I have been there several times before but the last time I was here was during Puasa month and I had to behave. hehe.. Anyway it's called Makam Mahsuri or Mahsuri's tomb. It's the crypt of the legendary Mahsuri, located in Mawat, about 10 km from Kuah. Makam Mahsuri is probably most famous legend in Langkawi.
"
The story begins with the beautiful Mahsuri, a maiden (or princess by some accounts) born over 200 years ago, who married the love of her life during a time of conflict with the Siamese. Her husband went off to fight in the war and her mother-in-law, jealous of her beauty, vengefully accused Mahsuri of adultery
Mahsuri protested her innocence but the village elders tried the young girl, found her guilty and sentenced her to death by stabbing. She was tied to a stake but when she was pierced with the ceremonial dagger she bled white blood, a sign of her innocence.
With her dying breath, Mahsuri cursed the island with seven generations of bad luck. Later the Siamese conquered Kedah and invaded the island – the inhabitants of Langkawi set fire to their staple crop and poisoned their wells in order to halt the advance of the invaders. Legend has it to this day traces of burnt rice can be seen in nearby Padang Matsirat (The Field of Burnt Rice) especially after torrential downpours."
http://www.langkawi-info.com/attractions/mahsuri-tomb.htmThe entrance fee is RM5 per adult. There's plenty to see here.. but it is a bit crowded.
I especially love the traditional houses inside the area.. said to be a replica of her house. Loved the architecture. There are souvenir shops at the entrance/exit area also so you can get your Langkawi souvenirs here.

Kepenatan |
We were already too hungry and too tired when we finally decided to get some food. I read that the laksa penarak at the Dataran Lang is better tasting than the one near the airport, so we went on and looked for the one near Dataran Lang. We were not disappointed. But it doesn't have sekor ikan. huhu.. Besides we wanted to do some shopping at Kuah as we are going home early the next morning.

The Menu.. We're here for laksa.. |

Heaven |
We then did our chocolate shopping at kuah and went back to our hotel rooms. Late that night I wanted to hang out at the lounge and maybe enjoy live band or coffee.. No live bands.. no coffee.. It was Saturday Night.. hence.. BBQ nite at the Hotel. I forgot.. Huhu.. So decided to walk along the walkway around the hotel. Creep me out.. huhu.. So went back up to the room. Jon retired early. She bought the earlier flight home.
Day 3:We woke up early so we could drive to the airport early and send the car back. I so love the breakfast at this hotel. They serve local kuehs as part of their breakfast spread, along with the usual western and nasi lemaks.
I wish we'd have time to swim at the swimming pool though.. we paid so much.
We parked the car at the airport car park and left the keys in the car. How convenient. Jon checked in, and boarded her flight. I continued to shop at the duty free shops at the airport. Turns out the price of the items there is the same as the one at KLIA... chehhhhh.... I even bought perfume... sabor je la.
|
Goodbye Langkawi |
I love Langkawi. It's not Bali. It's not Redang.. it's Langkawi. There's just soo many to do, and everytime I go there, there's always something new to do. I will be back.. for the mangrove trip. I know there's Langkawi canopy I have yet to try. Will do that too next.
I have to thank Jon because she was up for it when I asked her to join me on this superb trip. I love you buddy.. hehehe.. We should do this again soon.
The end.
